Chapter10: The plane takes off after flying

You think the plane flies after taking off. You think that when you learn swimming, you have to float first, then swim. You believe that when you ride a bicycle, you have to balance first, then move forward. It's all wrong. The plane must fly to float in the air, swimming must swim to float in the water, and bicycles must pedal to balance. The whole is ahead of the part. The parts are not gathered together to become a whole, but the entire framework is set first and the parts are filled. Even though it is not perfect, it is necessary to set the whole framework first.

It's the difference between deductive thinking and inductive thinking. Inductive is 'first balancing and then pedaling'. Deductive is "Once you press the pedal, it is balanced on its own." But wouldn't it fall if you pedal first without even balancing? You can put on the training wheel, or someone can hold it from behind. Even with outside help, it is important to experience the entire process once.

Cognition is deductive. But you can't deduct. If you learn to swim, you can drown while trying to deduct. It is inductive because it has no choice but to be inductive. So the knowledge doesn't increase. But you have to have confidence. You have to submerge first to learn how to swim. You shouldn't be afraid of water. You shouldn't be afraid of riding a bicycle. You have to pedal even if you fall down. The baby's babble is deductive. The baby doesn't make a sentence by combining words. Whether it works or not, the baby tries to babble. Then at some point, it makes sense. At first, the baby gets a reaction. The baby gets an intense feeling and pleasure. The baby is addicted to the pleasure of babbling and reappears the feeling. The mouth for talking opens. That's the right order for you to go.

The Wright brothers flew the kite first. They trained flying first rather than floating. Dr. Wrangler tried the takeoff of the plane, and then planned the development of pilotage. You have to learn pilotage first. After flying a large kite and mastering pilotage, it is sufficient for you to put on a powerful engine. Why did Dr. Wrangler, a scientist, lose and the Wright brothers, an amateur inventor, win? This is because it overcame the problem of inductive thinking that the parts should gather together to become the whole. This is because they approached it with a deductive thinking that the part is filled on its own by the attempt of doing the whole.

Of course, there are also difficulties in deducting. Trial and error cannot be avoided in the attempt of deducting. You have to fall at least once to learn how to ride a bicycle. You have to fall into the water to learn how to swim. You have to overcome the fear. It's a rite of passage that you have to overcome. If you cross the gate of fear, it goes with lighting speed. In reality, we are used to inductive thinking that learns parts first. Because teachers teach in a way that is easy to teach. Those who can do it by deducting will be easy to do, but those who can't will never be able to do it. So, in order for all students to achieve certain results, they teach one by one in induction.

President Kim Dae-jung said that “what I become is not important, but what I do is important”. He pursued reform and unexpectedly became a president. Ahn Cheol-soo is trying to be something without doing, so it doesn't work out well. When you try to do something, incomplete parts are revealed, and others come and fill the parts. But when you try to be something, various checks approach from all directions. Of course he has no choice but to fail. The part is what you become, and the whole is what you do. Deductive is to take charge of the whole even if it is small. If you want to become a president, you have to be even the leader of a small group.

The same goes for pianists when they learn to play. You shouldn't try to play the whole after playing the part. Even if you fail, you have to play the entire song to learn balance, learn the meaning of each note by balance, and could memorize the song by knowing the meaning of note. Once you start from the part, you can't memorize the song. In particular, in the field of art, clumsy and crass people often succeed. Those who take the shortcut go quickly, and those who want to solve it slowly one by one cannot even start because they cannot fasten their shoelaces.
