Chapter 7: The meaning of directionality

세상에 개소리가 너무 많다. 일일이 반박해 주려니 그것도 품이 든다. 몰아서 한 방에 해결하자. 개별적으로 보지 말고 하나로 연동시켜서 보는 것이다. 사건은 방향성이 있다. 방향이 맞으면 맞고 방향이 틀리면 틀린다. 세부적인 것을 시시콜콜 따져봤자 입만 아프고 큰 틀에서의 원칙적인 판단이 중요하다. 방향이 안 맞으면 좌고우면 하지 말고 과감하게 기각시켜야 한다. 이론적 확신을 가지고 담대한 결단을 내려야 한다.

There is a lot of nonsense in the world. I’m tired of refuting one by one. Let me get them all together and arrange at once. Don't look at it individually, but look at it as one. 방향성은 복잡을 단순화 시킨다. 사회학을 심리학으로 바꾸고, 심리학을 생물학으로 바꾸고, 생물학을 화학으로 바꾸고, 화학을 물리학으로 바꾸고, 물리학을 수학으로 바꾼다. 수학은 절대로 맞다. 방향성은 사건이 진행될수록 외부 변수가 밸런스에 반영되어 내부상수로 바뀌는 것이다. 방향이 안 맞는데도 현장에서 먹히고 있다면 외부 영향에 의한 교란인데 그래봤자 오래 가지 못한다. 그 경우는 판을 키우면 된다. 총력전, 전면전, 장기전으로 가면 결국 방향이 옳은 쪽이 이긴다. 천하단위, 문명단위, 역사단위의 큰 싸움으로 가면 진보가 이기고, 정의가 이기고, 선이 이긴다.

Directionality simplifies a lot of complex things. It changes sociology into psychology, psychology into biology, biology into chemistry, chemistry into physics, and physics into mathematics. 방향은 둘이다. 자체엔진으로 가느냐, 외력에 의존하느냐다. 자기 실력으로 가느냐, 컨닝으로 가느냐다. 자기 월급으로 사느냐, 부모 용돈으로 사느냐다. 문제는 사건이 점점 커진다는 거다. 처음에는 운이 좋은 놈이 이기지만 나중에는 실력이 뛰어난 넘이 이긴다. 처음에는 부모 용돈으로 살다가 결국 나의 수입으로 살아야 한다. 처음에는 외력에 의존하지만 결국 자체 엔진으로 갈아타야 한다.

서구가 동양을 이긴 것은 애초에 문명이 그쪽에서 먼저 시작되었기 때문이다. 서구가 운이 좋았다. 중세에 동양이 잠시 추월한 것은 중국이 홀로 독주하여 주변과의 에너지 낙차가 컸기 때문이다. 변방에서 인물이 나는 격이다. 다시 서구가 추월한 것은 북유럽문명, 인도문명, 아프리카 문명, 아랍문명, 지중해 문명이 하나의 서구문명으로 수렴되었기 때문이다. 동양은 주변문명이 없이 고립되었기 때문에 2단 로켓에 점화할 수 없었다. 결국 문명의 실력대결로 흘러가면 다시 동양이 이길 수 있는 요인이 많다. 동양은 서구문명을 흡수하여 에너지 낙차를 만들어내지만 서구는 동양문명을 흡수하지 않기 때문이다. 서구가 동양의 의리를 배워야 하는 이유다.

존재는 사건이고 사건은 동적 환경이다. 판이 움직이는 것이다. 외부의 영향은 판이 움직이므로 차차 밸런스에 반영되어 어느새 내부가 되어버린다. 처음에는 정치인이 외부에서 판을 흔들지만 나중에는 국민이 변해서 그 힘을 흡수한다. 태극기가 처음에는 외부의 변수였는데 지금은 촛불의 맞대응에 의해 내부의 상수가 되었다. 외부 변수는 지렛대의 원리가 작용하므로 힘이 있는데 내부 상수는 힘이 없다. 지렛대의 손잡이는 길수록 힘이 있다. 외부변수는 거리가 멀 수록 힘이 있다.

한국이 뜨는 이유는 한국의 문화가 멀리서 작용하는 지렛대 효과를 내기 때문이다. 80년대에 일본이 뜬 이유는 지금 한국이 뜨는 이유와 같다. 그런데 반영되었다. 서구는 일본문화에서 빼먹을 것을 빼먹었다. 한국은 아직 사골을 끓이면 나오는게 있다. 새로운 것이 일시적으로 붐을 이루지만 차차로 밸런스에 반영되어 운빨대결 끝나고 결국은 실력대결로 간다

극한의 법칙을 적용하자. 11명이 뛰는 축구시합에서 골이 더 많이 터지게 하려면 선수의 숫자를 늘려야 할까, 줄여야 할까? 헷갈린다. 1명이 뛰는 시합과 백명이 뛰는 시합을 비교하면 알 수 있다. 양팀 각 한 명이 뛰면 승부차기다. 백 명이 뛰면 골이 안 터진다. 프로야구 승률이 헷갈릴 때다. 승수가 같을 때 5할 이상은 시합을 많이 한 팀이 지고 있고, 5할 이하는 반대다. 2승 1패와 99승 98패를 비교하면 된다. 이것은 수학이므로 받아들여야 한다. 혹시 모르잖아 하고 막연한 기대를 하는 사람이 많지만 모르긴 뭘 몰라. 아닌건 아닌 거다. 수학은 속일 수 없다. 그런데 뭐든 수학으로 바꿀 수 있다는게 방향성이다. 방향성에 확신을 가져야 한다. 중간에 잠시 흔들리게 되지만 고비를 넘어야 한다.
