Chapter 9: Matchup, Co-prosperity, and Opposites

어떤 변화를 설명할 때는 세 가지 변인을 추적해야 한다. 하나는 주체의 변화다. 둘째는 객체의 변화다. 세째는 둘의 상성이다. 내가 잘해서 이길 수도 있고, 상대가 못해서 이길 수도 있고, 둘의 궁합이 승부를 결정할 수도 있다.

When explaining a change, you should trace three variables. The first is the change of the subject. The second is the change of the object. The third is the matchup between the two. You can win because of the ability of the subject, because of the lack of ability of the object, or because of the good compatibility between the two.

격투기의 상성이 유명하다. 가위바위보와 같다. 그래플러는 타격가를 이기고, 타격가는 만능형을 이기고, 만능형은 그래플러를 이긴다. 조 프레이저는 무하마드 알리를 이기고, 조지 포먼은 조 프레이저를 이기고, 무하마드 알리는 조지 포먼을 이겼다. 이 중에서도 조지 포먼이 조 프레이저를 이긴 것이 가장 확실하게 상성이 드러난 경기다. 현격한 신장의 차이 때문이다. 조 프레이즈는 팔이 짧아서 주먹을 휘둘러도 키가 큰 조지 포먼의 신체에 닿지 않았다. 이건 어쩔 수 없는 것이다.

Matchup is important in martial arts. It's like rock-paper-scissors. The grappler beats the striker, the striker beats the well rounder, and the well rounder beats the grappler. Joe Fraser beat Muhammad Ali, George Foreman beat Joe Fraser, and Muhammad Ali beat George Foreman. Among them, George Foreman's victory over Joe Fraser was the most obvious matchup. It is because of the significant difference in height. Joe Fraser had a short arm, so even if he swung his fist, he could not reach the tall George Foreman's body. This is the ultimate matchup beyond his control.

주체와 객체의 사정은 열린계에 속하므로 사건의 진행과정에서 용해된다. 주사위의 눈이 균일하지 않게 나오면 객체인 주사위를 잘못 만든 것이다. 혹은 주체인 사람이 주사위를 잘못 던진 것이다. 이런 부분은 대응된다. 주사위를 고쳐서 다시 던지면 된다. 해결할 수 없는 것은 상성이다. 상성은 닫힌계에 속하므로 외부에서 대응할 수 없다. 차는 정비사가 고치면 되고 도로는 국가에서 관리하면 되는데 운전실력은 외부에서 어쩔 수 없다. 당사자가 해결해야 한다. 연주자의 실력과 곡의 난이도는 조절할 수 있지만 악기들 간의 상성은 어쩔 수 없다. 현악 4중주단을 편성한다면 고려해야 한다. 엉뚱한 악기를 집어넣으면 안 된다.

Since the circumstances of the subject and object belong to the open system, they are dissolved in the course of the event. If the spots of a rolled dice doesn’t uniform, the dice as an object is a defective one. Or you could know the person as a subject threw the dice wrong. This part can be dealt with. You can fix the dice and throw it again. But what you can't solve is matchup. Since it belongs to a closed system, the outside cannot cope with it. The car can be repaired by a mechanic and the road can be managed by the state, but Mrs. Kim's driving skills cannot be helped from the outside. You, the person involved, have to solve it by yourself. You can control the performance technique and the level of difficulty of the song, but you can't control the matchup between the instruments. When forming a string quartet, you should be cautious the arrangement of the wrong instrument.

화살이 맞지 않으면 궁수가 분발하거나 더 좋은 활을 사용해야 한다. 문제는 둘 사이의 거리다. 활터의 사거리는 정해져 있다. 둘의 관계는 어쩔 수 없다. 열린계는 외부에서 대응할 수 있는데 닫힌계는 어쩔 수 없다. 내부에서 자체적으로 해결해야 한다. 어떤 하나는 대응할 수 있는데 어떤 둘의 사이는 어쩔 수 없다.

If the arrow does not hit the target, the archer should try hard or use a better bow. The problem is the distance between the two. The distance of the archery field is fixed. It is beyond their control about the relation between the two. The open system can respond from the outside, but the closed system is cannot expect the support of the outside. It has to be solved from the inside on its own. One can respond but the relation of some two is beyond their control.

상대성의 열린계 - 주체의 변수와 객체의 변수는 열려 있으므로 외부에서 대응할 수 있다.

절대성의 닫힌계 - 상성, 상생상극, 궁합, 천적관계는 닫혀 있는 둘 사이의 간격이므로 외부에서 대응할 수 없다.

The open system of relativity – The variables of the subject and the object are open, so they can respond from the outside.

둘의 상성만 따지는 것이 수학이다. 다른 부분은 논외로 하고 상성만 보자는 거다. 소금이 짠지 설탕이 단지는 논외로 하고 소금과 설탕의 궁합만 보자는 거다. 소금이 싱거우면 조절할 수 있다. 설탕은 당도를 조절할 수 있다. 둘의 궁합은 조절되지 않는다. 합이 맞지 않으면 피해야 한다. 좋은 선수라도 팀의 전술과 맞지 않으면 쓸 수 없다.
